Why Re-Elect Dan O’Donnell to Vista City Council District 4
Hi, I'm Dan O'Donnell, Vista’s Deputy Mayor and City Councilmember representing District 4. I’m also a husband, a dad to two young boys, and proud to call Vista, California home.
Four years ago I made a promise: show up, listen, and put Vista first, not party interests, not developer interests. That promise still guides everything I do. I've hosted more town halls than any other councilmember, and this is what I’ve accomplished on the Vista City Council:
Three new sheriff's deputies and 12 EMTs for first response & public safety
Safer streets, sidewalks, streetlights, and crosswalks
New practice fields for Vista Little League through Vista Unified School District
Expanded senior services and new parkland
Affordable housing policies and support for local businesses
$5 million in state funding for a Homeless Navigation Center
Consistent opposition to tax and fee increases, while investing smartly in our city's future
That progress is real, but it isn't finished. Vista still needs more housing people can actually afford, continued investment in parks and open space, a city government that partners with local businesses instead of standing in their way, and a councilmember who stays accessible and accountable long after election day. That's what I'm going to continue doing.

I wasn't born in Vista, but it's where I put down roots. I grew up the youngest of six kids in a working-class family outside of Chicago. My dad came home from Vietnam, met my mom in the Midwest, and together they built a life from very little, working long hours to give their kids more than they ever had. That example is where my work ethic comes from.
Their sacrifice made college possible: a degree from Illinois State University and a Master's in Public Administration from National University in San Diego, and a career I've built around public service. That path eventually brought me to California, and to Vista, where I met my wife Allie, bought our first home, and we are now raising our two young sons.
Being a dad has only deepened my commitment to this community. Whether you've lived in Vista for thirty years or just moved in down the street, whether you're raising a family or just starting out, I believe you deserve a city that works for you.
Vista has given my family so much. Running again is my way of saying I'm not done giving back.
